You didn’t think we were just going to let a 4th of July Sunday slip by unnoticed, did you? Here’s the scoop.

When: Sunday, July 4th from 10:00 to 3:00 on the front lawn of Father’s House.

Bring: Wear your shorts & bring your friends, your own lawn chairs or picnic blanket, a picnic lunch, a dessert to share, shade cover if you have one, items you might need for our Kid’s Parade of Colors. (In addition to bringing a dessert to share, consider entering it in our dessert contest.)

Highlights: An awesome outdoor Sunday service, Kid’s Parade of Colors, Quilt raffle, a dessert contest, jump house, cotton candy, Patriotic photo booth, crazy games, races, a huge tug-of-war, watermelon eating contest, prize ribbons, and other activities that we can’t tell you about!

Because this event is a fund raiser for our fall Ladies Retreat, there will be a charge for a few things like cotton candy and the photo booth. So bring a few dollars to contribute to a worthy cause..

Note: If you would like to be one of the judges for the dessert contest, the cost is $5.00 and only 5 judges are needed. If your judge’s mouth is watering, see Diane Hallquist for details on how you can have a taste of each of our contest entries.

Quilt Raffle!

We have a beautiful quilt made especially for this raffle by Charity Gunderson.

Ticket sales will begin Sunday, May 16th!

Calendar Girls …

We’ve been busy working on our calendar … it will be in black and white and the cost is $10 per calendar.

We’ve got some great shots of you!

These photos are just a sneak peak of some of the photo shoots we had …

We’ll put it out for sale for the first time at our Ladies Retreat coming up in about three weeks.

The money earned will go towards activities for our Forever Girlfriends group.

We’ll be selling them at Father’s House when we get back, so be thinking of how many you want to give as Christmas gifts this year!

The supplies are limited, so if you know you want one, please leave a comment here and we’ll reserve one for you.

Applesauce Bran Muffins

APPLESAUCE BRAN MUFFINS

This recipe makes 12 large muffins. Please note that it uses two different kinds of cereal, Kellogg’s 100% Bran Cereal and Kellogg’s All Bran.

1 Cup Kelloggs 100% bran cereal mixed well with 1 cup milk, 1 Egg beaten into mix w/fork, 1/4 cup brown sugar, well packed, and  3 Tbs oil.

When the above ingredients are well mixed, add 1 cup applesauce. Mix. Let stand about 5 minutes to give the bran time to become well soaked.

Sift into the above mixture: 1 cup flour, 4 tsp baking powder, 2/3 tsp salt.

Mix all together very well.   

Oil your muffin pan. Pam is best especially if you have Teflon muffin pans.

Add  1 1/2 cups Kellogg’s All-Bran to the mixture. As soon as it is well mixed (do this quickly so that the All-Bran does not have time to become soaked with the liquid) place into the muffin pans. From now on be gentle.  Let the mix stand in the pans at least 5 minutes to give the All-Bran time to soak. If you forgot to heat the oven to 400 degrees, now is the time to do it.

Bake in 400 degree oven for about 30-35 minutes.

These are even better when they have cooled off a bit, or even cold. They are excellent the next day.  If you want to serve them cold, don’t be hesitant about cooking them the day before you are going to use them.  After they are cold, keep them in a tight, plastic bag.

I’ve been reading Living Artfully by Sandra Magsamen.  The book is such an inspiration to me! It’s full of wonderful ideas and things to consider.  The following quote taken from her book has made me rethink many things in my life …

… at age five we engage in creative tasks 98 times a day, laugh 113 times, and ask 65 questions.  By age forty-four, the numbers fade to 2 creative tasks a day, 11 laughs, and 6 questions.
